RE: 1,000 watts enough????

bill..my batteries soc when i start everyday is in the 70-85% range...i was wondering if maybe i should start charger set at 20 amps and after a time switch to 40 amps..by that time maybe they will require less than 40 so i wont need as much from genset,,, because i dont run them down so far, they only take the 40 amps for a few minutes anyway

RE: 1,000 watts enough????

i of course knew i could get bigger gennies, but for reasons of size, weight and life style the 1,000 is best in my situation... my tv is dc and all i ever use 4K for is to run charger.... i dont want to mess with inverters or converters etc...just simple battery charging with outboard charger...

1,000 watts enough????

i have class A with 4K genset...live off grid 99.9% of time...recharge 4 series 24's with 3 stage xantrex outboard charger...it starts at 40 amps and of course drops amp input as batteries take charge... i wanted to get quieter 1k honda or yamaha gen/inverter...they only output about 8.3 amps at 120...my charger requires 8.7 amps to start with at 40 amp charge rate... what would the problems be with this setup??? would my charger then start with lets say 37 amps??? would the genset shut down??? any thoughts....

slop in receiver..

i have put a motorcycle carrier in my toads receiver hitch...there is some play in he mating of the 2 components..this causes the bike to see-saw as i ride down the road...on the male part of same, there is a "collar" about 3 inches out from the female..this makes it difficult to slide anyhing in there to fill slack....any suggestions??

RE: wal mart situation

first..to the gentleman who told me "if i cant afford staying at rv parks or campgrounds, to get a new hobby"..this is not my hobby..i live fulltime in my rv....i purchased an entry level rv to enjoy my remaining years in the lifestyle i love...i dont have a $200,000 coach..i live on a fixed income... fuel has gone up 40% since i started in november... even with that, when i started i didnt think i could swing $700-$1000 a month to park.... but thats besides the point..the family motorcoach group puts out a us map of all the walmarts crackerbarrels etc etc for free overnite stays..there are countless web sites giving directions to free places to park... if i cant afford paying to stay at paying sights every night, i cant..but i love this lifestyle too much to give it up...however sharing it with jerks like you make it even more intersting and enjoyable...

RE: wal mart situation

i never really thought this post that i started would evolve to this, but my original point was...why should rv park owners have the right to tell me where i can park overnight... in instances where walmart has been forced to stop the overnight parking they most graciously gave us... we i thought rv'd because of the great freedom it gave us... WM should be free to let folks park on their property.. i should be free to choose whether i want to stay there or anywhere else i so desire as long as its legal and doesnt impinge on anothers freedoms... thats it period..no rv park owner has the right to get laws implemented to help them in business...when it affects my or your life and lifestyle.. isnt that what freedom is??? the rest of the things said here are smoke and mirrors...stay with the point...

RE: wal mart situation

boy am i sorry i opened this can of worms.... but the main point was local rv park owners putting preasure on local WM or zoning boards to stop rv parking overnight.... why do the rv park owners have a right to do this and take fair trade away, while WM opens and puts thousands of mom and pops out of business and no one comes to their aid!!! ok lets kick this one around.... its a free country and if WM wants to let me use their lot it should be ok..and if i find pavement camping a delight., thats my concern...

RE: wal mart situation

just to again clarify..(see previous @ 30% of time) i spend 1-2 nights a week on average in WM... however i also spend $600-$700 a month there even if i dont stay everynight... that includes food and supplies.. i never put down my levelers or open my slides... always park as far from store as possible.. police the area at no charge.. this weeks my birthday, they aught to send me a card...

wal mart situation

as i am making my way north for the summer i am finding more and more wal marts (especially in colorado), not allowing overnight parking... today alone ive seen 3-4 that are closed to overnighters.. also this morning while discussing the situation with another fulltimer, we both dont want to use campgrounds, cant afford them etc etc... now we know some folks like CG and to each his own for sure...the more folks that use CG the better for all concerned... during this mornings discusion we felt that pehaps the CG owners are either convincing wal mart, or the town zoning boards to implement these rules/laws... the CG owners seem to have a united front, but the rvers dont in this instance... how about in towns where wal mart is forced to stop over night parking, rvers boycott the CG in those towns... it almost is the same as with the gas companies, if a united front boycotted mobil for 5 days, there would be a price war.. why dont WE turn the pressure on??? what are your thoughts...

RE: Which is a better charger?

i know this doesnt answer your question, but i have the xantrex 2-20-40 amp 3 stage and it has been fool proof... i run it off my genset all the time..it also gives you current percent of charge ...charging voltage and amps at all time during the process... has auto shutdown also...about $100 US

campground voltage cheking

i had never gone "on the grid before" as a fulltimer..but now have started to do so every month or so to bring batteries to 100%...i only really use their 110 to run my 3 stage external charger basically.. i have heard horror stories about campground AC circuits.... like polarity issues...voltage drops..voltage too low or high etc etc.. my question is..with a 30A MH...what stuff do i need to purchase to test the CG's 110 to safely use it????. and should i have anything in the line as i run off their shore power....???..or am i too paranoid??

RE: laptop drain with movies...

thanks for reply, thats what i would think as there is a mechanical device spinning, but i lose more voltage with a streaming movie...im thinking that the verizon card streaming the movie may use alot...but thats why i asked....im talking about 1/2 a volt difference which is not a small amount....

RE: Battery voltage?

i can answer the first part for 12 volt battery bank.... mine are fully charged at 13.77 volts with nothing but small phantom draw...that is measured at "rest", after the charge is removed when about 10 minutes elapses....i measure them while they are attached to rv and not just sitting on a bench....
